Our unit was defective. & I had to pay return shipping. WOW
I did a lot of research on various air purification products and had a very difficult time deciding however, this one seemed to come highly recommended with the features we wanted and a good filtration system, so I purchased it through Amazon. I ordered the single white Medify MA-40 (2.0 updated model) as it was the only single option available at the time . . . the black must have been out of stock. I ordered both the MA-40 & 2-pack of the filters . . . however, I have yet to receive the filters a week after receiving the MA-40. The unit comes very well packaged and appears to be built very well. The top panel is made very well and the controls are very easy to use. I read through the manual that comes with the unit, I had also watched a video that a reviewer made on the setup so I followed the setup instructions correctly. 1. The very first thing that happened when I turned the unit on was a rather loud noise of the fan hitting something, but it went away very shortly. That happened a couple of additional times when I tipped the unit at an angle so I suspect something did not get tied down properly when it was put together. I did find small pieces of plastic on the carpet where I was setting the unit up. 2. The next problem encountered was the unit only has (3) speeds. The description clearly states it's a 4-speed fan. I found no difference between sleep mode and low setting. The lights will eventually go off in sleep mode, but there is no difference in the fan speed or noise level. That, of course, leads to a low rating on the noise level. Even on the low-level setting, the MA-40 moves a lot of air and is rather noisy. 3. The last problem relates to the ionizer function. At first, I thought the switch or LED lamp was broken as it did not work on the low setting. I found out if one sets the airflow to the medium or high settings the ionizer switch does work . . . however, there is no fresh, ionized air smell that fills the room. Yes, I do know what the ionizer function is and what the room should smell like with that function turned on. On this unit, the ionizer was just not functioning and I also feel it should work on the low and sleep settings as well. Note I did contact Medify Air Customer Support on my experience on two different occassions during the past week. However, they seemed to dance around the questions related to the 4-speeds as well as the ionization. They did offer to repalce the unit, but we didn't need another 3-speed, no ionizer function unit. So with a ( 1 ) star rating on Sleep Mode, Noise Level, & Scent and the fact the unit is defective, I requested the unit be returned to Amazon this morning. No problem . . . I enter a very short description of the problem ( they don't really provide much room for that ) and received my authorization to return the product. Then I get another surprise . . . I had to pay the shipping costs to return the defective product. I cost me $87 to ship the unit directly back to Medify Air . . . YES $87 . . . WOW. And I haven't even received the filters as yet and will probably have to pay to return those as well . . . Both parts of the order to return cost me $113.22. I recommend to anyone considering this product to read the fine print on returns. WOW $113.22 that I have to pay to return a defective product. Update - The first part of the return was FedEx Delivered Friday 4/10/2020 at 1:09 pm, the second part of the return was Delivered Thursday 4/16/2020 at 12:17 pm. Today is 04/23/2020 and I have not received any credit to my Amazon account. This is a purchase that just keeps on taking . . .
