Fun Game ruined by greed
I absolutely loved Where's My Water, as well as Where's My Perry and Where's my Mickey, and was excited to hear that for the 2nd anniversary of the original release they were going to launch a sequel, Where's My Water 2. Well, after having to wait for it to be released on android, several weeks after the apple launch, i downloaded the game.
First level was similar to the other games, but the next thing to pop up is a "connect to facebook" button so you can "see how your friends did" I do not have, nor desire a facebook account.
This was followed by a different type of level - a "duck rush", which is similar to a balooney level in Where's my Perry, where you do not see the whole screen, as it keeps on moving, and you need to guess where to send the water. At the end of the level was another box telling you to connect to facebook to see how your friends did. Starting to wonder what sort of kickback they are getting from facebook, or if Disney is a silent owner.
Now there are little ducks with facebook flags, and out of curiosity, I clicked on it. Another box telling you to connect to facebook, and if you do, you receive free energy refill (more on this later), get a "helping hand' from your friends, and here is where I started to have doubts about this game, receive keys from your friends to help you reach new levels. Again, no facebook here, so apparently there will come a point where I will not be able to play this game, or will it cost me money to continue. Won't happen.
Speaking about money, there is a new button that appears at the bottom of the screen after the second or third level, and when you click it there are 5 little icons, 1- home key, 2- a little envelope so you can connect to facebook and get gifts, 3- a little duck so you can choose your rubber duckie avatar, 4- a musical note, that allows you to turn on/off sounds and music, and finally a shopping cart, where, you guessed it, you can buy stuff! For $2.99 you can buy a "starter bundle" so you can "treat yourself" to power-ups and hints on how to solve levels (for people who don't know how to use you tube). For $9.99 you can buy a 'monster bundle" filled with all the power-ups and hints you need to beat the game. For $16.99, you can purchase more energy so you can "play more often.
This is insane! You can spend $30.00 bucks on a game with less levels than the original game that cost $1.99 for 5 times the game play. I figure since it was free to download, I will play it up to the point where I am asked/need to spend money to continue, then I will dump it. I have now played several levels, and apparently the facebook "connect and see how your friends are doing" box comes up at the end of each and every level.
So basically, I love the game, there are new game mechanics and twists that are a lot of fun and very innovative and the game itself is worth 5 stars, but I hate Disney for their greed. I would have happily spent a couple bucks for the game, but now, l will never spend another dime on any game that Disney puts out. I hope parents check this game carefully and make sure to disconnect in app purchases.
UPDATE - You can't get past level 30 without either harassing your friends on facebook or paying money for a "keychain." Shameless.
