I'm doing Vince's work & memory a disservice by continuing to support these poor parodies
I have read every Mitch Rapp book. In respect of Vince, I’ve stuck with the Kyle Mills era of the series, even though they haven’t been living up to my expectations. However, after reading this book, I have concluded that I am doing Vince’s memory—and prior work—a disservice by continuing to support Mills’s ridiculously poor parodies of the Rapp series. Kyle doesn't know these characters like he should, plus the writing is just bad. While struggling through this book, I continually shook my head over the B-movie-level dialogue. My Kindle was at 50% and the book was still plodding along one-dimensionally. I was also put-off by the pages and pages of rambling thoughts of the terrorist leader—was Mills trying to show depth here by providing “insight” into a terrorist’s mind? If so, he failed and instead came across as a quasi-sympathizer. Then there are the characters: Mitch would have not made these choices. He just wouldn’t have. And Mitch’s colleagues were included by name only, not as actual characters in the book. They could have been ANYONE, which seems like an easy out for an author who hasn’t done their homework….or loved the series like the rest of us. It just makes me sad and mad.
