Hard Drive failured in less than 2 months and toshiba has bad RMA policies.
I will never purchase from toshiba again if I can help it. I purchased the X300 4TB and it initially seemed to work. However in less than 2 months it started to perform very slow, and eventually had reading and writing issues. It eventually degraded to complete failure. After much troubleshooting it turns out the hard drive has many bad sectors. Next came the RMA process, which I am currently still struggling with. Initially after using Toshiba's surprisingly not user friendly website, I started the RMA. They told me they will sent me a replacement hard drive and that I have 10 days upon receiving it to send back the defective one or I would be billed. Sounded fair to me, and that gave me time to attempt to clone the old hard drive to maybe save some data. However the next day their tech support, someone named Joshua Chancellor, sends me a weirdly cryptic email about how they need proof of purchase, and how I have to send the defective hard drive in first because it's a retail drive. This actually took a couple email exchanges to make that clear due to some poor communication. Also. They wont send me a new hard drive, they will just send me a Visa card, and only after I send back the defective drive for inspection. Furthermore, I have to pay for and handle the shipping myself, and if I want to clone the drive then I have to buy a new one myself first. I get Joshua doesn't make these policies, though he was poor at communicating all this. Toshiba has very poor customer service and bad policies. This now will in the end cost me money to clone the hard drive and ship it when it was their fault that the product is defective. Now I have to find a way to attempt to recover my data before I ship it out. My best advise, don't buy this hard drive, and avoid toshiba since it you get a defective product it will cost you in the end. I will certainly not buy from toshiba again.
