Wow. What an awful movie. Looks like Philips just set Phoenix loose for two hours. Joker desperately needed more structure. The violence was filmed very well. Great tension and attention to detail. But good Lord, a little structure, a little time more spent writing and a little less improv would have fixed this herky jerky uneven mess. It's like Philips just tried to ride on the coattails of Phoenix's genius without trying shape the story. Flaccid structure. Perhaps it's worth it to rent it, but I do regret buying it. And I'm pissed that the only option was buying the movie. And my God, what a degenerate and shallow movie. Free from responsibility and experience, it's a movie I would have enjoyed as a teenager, but I'm older and I can't empathize with psychos who succumb to their demons. Life is about overcoming the Everest within yourself.
