UPDATED: BEWARE: HUGE Dud out of the box. Better hope there's nothing wrong when you get it...
UPDATED POST:
After writing the original review below, Bluetti reached out to me and admitted that perhaps my unit was indeed faulty after all. They offered me the opportunity to simply return my unit, or exchange it. Wanting to give them another chance, I opted for the exchange. Bluetti sent the new unit out quickly and even provided the return label for the original unit
I received the replacement unit and immediately began the same battery of tests as I did with my previous one. Where my original unit errantly discharged at 37 watts/hour, this one performed marginally better, discharging at 25 watts/hour.
Disappointed yet again with the replacement unit, I discovered that REI was running a sale on Goal Zero products (the GZ ended up being $200 less than the Bluetti), so I decided to purchase the Yeti1500 to see if there was a difference.
Conducting the exact same test, using my 12v fridge, the Yeti 1500 only discharged at 9 watts/hour. Basically, the GZ, with 500 fewer usable watt/hours would actually last me 3x as long as the Bluetti (under the same conditions). This confirmed my suspicions that sadly, my replacement Bluetti unit was also a dud.
At that point I reached back out to Helen with Bluetti customer service to initiate my return. Helen responded that she would process my return, however I was responsible for the cost to ship the 60lb unit back because Bluetti deemed it to be in "perfect working order"
At that point, I went through the same dance as before. I had to explain to Helen why the unit wasn't actually performing properly and that at this point I was completely disappointed with both the product and more importantly, the tremendously poor level of customer service. I told her I'd give her one last chance to improve my experience and she immediately sent a return label. The process after that went smoothly and I received my refund promptly.
ORIGINAL POST -
Had a Jackery500 that powered my 12v fridge for 48 hours. Wanted to do some longer boondocking (without adding solar) so I decided to purchase the Bluetti AC200P - It has proven to be nothing but a huge headache
I received the unit sooner than expected (8 days). It arrived at 53% charged, so I charged it up to 100%.
At that point I decided to test it
using a standard wall outlet, I brought the same 12v fridge to 33 degree temperature and THEN plugged it into the Bluetti DC port (AC was shut off). The fridge cycles for 5 mins, 4x per hour, at 35watts (the Bluetti display confirmed this - the display showed no consumption when the compressor wasn't running). After only an hour I'd already depleted 10%, or 200watts, of the Bluetti. Continuing the test, still only using the fridge, the Bluetti had depleted itself to 0% in only 53 hours (only 5 more hours than my Jackery 500). I immediately knew something was wrong
I decided to run another test, this time using the AC side with a hairdryer. With the DC side shut off, I plugged in the hairdryer. The display confirmed 950 watt draw. After 8mins and 30 seconds, the display showed that I'd used 10%, or 200watts - this works out roughly to 1450 watts/hour - far more than the 950 watts of the hair dryer.
At that point, I contacted Bluetti customer service using their online form. After 2 days, I heard nothing back so I called the phone number. I was able to speak to Sean, who was very helpful. He stated it sounded like perhaps the batteries were improperly balanced, but that Bluetti was very committed to customer service, so he would expedite my challenge. Note: with the unit on, nothing plugged in and both AC and DC turned off, the unit lost 1% during the 9 min conversation with Sean.
That night I received an email from Lila in customer service, asking me about my experience. I sent her all the specs of my testing. She responded the next day saying it could've been the initial startup surge from the fridge (even though I'd told her the fridge was already at temp when first plugged into the Bluetti). She also sent me a chart showing that the No-Load power consumption of the Bluetti, using only DC, was 10.9W. So basically, with nothing plugged in, I should anticipate the unit to draw almost as much as with the fridge plugged in - in other words, over a 48hr boondocking trip, I should expect a 523 watt hour consumption in ADDITION to anything plugged in - that's over 25% of the battery.
I responded that even factoring that into the math, it still didn't come close to equaling the consumption I was experiencing and I asked her to validate if she felt there was something wrong with the unit or if she agreed there was something wrong.
4 days later (after I sent 2 follow-up emails that went unanswered) I received a response from Helen in customer service, assuring me the unit was fine, with the following response "It seems that your unit is fine. This is large capacity battery, so as long as you turn it on, it consumes power. If you put device on it , it also will consume power." That, along with the same power consumption chart I'd already received from Lila.
I immediately responded, based on her assuring me the unit was working properly, that I wanted to return the unit.
I had to wait yet another day for her to respond, asking for my amazing order # so they can "check with their Amazon coworker to decide next step"
At this point, I still don't have a resolution. I was so excited to purchase what I thought would be a boondocking game changer, but right now I'm completely frustrated and disappointed by the performance of the unit and their customer service. I'd have a hard time recommending this to anyone
