Nice camera, but not worth the hassle when it breaks
The camera alone is worth 4-stars - the photography features work well, with fun overlays and transformations for both photos and videos. There are a few interesting games, but not enough to become problematic. My 7yro daughter enjoyed using the camera - but it didn't hold her attention for the long-term as much as a tablet she also received. So expect your child to enjoy a few months use from the camera, and then easily save the media with the USB. The only functional issue is the camera has limited storage, and the internal memory fills up quickly.
However, my stars are reduced because the camera does not seem durable. My daughter was not rough at all, but after 4 months the camera developed a defect such that it shuts off randomly during use, sometimes within seconds - making the camera now unusable. Different batteries have not helped.
Beware that the VTech Kidizoom DUO seems to have a 90-day warranty. Therefore, our defective camera could not be replaced anymore. This warranty is not clearly marked by Amazon or by VTech. This product is actually produced by VTech UK, but they will not uphold the 12-months UK warranty when sold on Amazon. They claim the Amazon "Online Exclusive" product carries the 90-day warranty of their US products - although this product is not sold by VTech America, and their US customer service won't respond to inquiry about this product.
Finally, in my experience, VTech customer service were not very responsive, ready to dismiss or ignore a courteous inquiry. With several different worldwide divisions that make their products, the customer service for one department seems quick to defer any responsibility to the next.
Verdict: this camera should be considered a 90-day "throw-away" product. You won't get help when it does break. May or may not be worth the money for it's short lifespan.
