Sad, Disappointing, and Not the Same as Before....
Let me preface my review by saying this: it's rare I have to say I don't like a product. Most of the time, even if it's not what I've expected, I'll just bite the bullet and work with what I was sent rather than go through the hassle of trying to return an item, and it's rare that I'll even spend the time to write a review, unless I really like the product. However, I felt like it was important to let you all know, as well as the manufacturer, what I experienced with this product. And I'm honestly heart broken. I had previously bought these sheets about a year ago. And boy, straight out the box, did I fall in love. Due to my husband having a skin condition that we have to cater to, we have to unfortunately be very picky with the type of sheets we buy. Cotton works best, and these were exactly what I was hoping I would find. They were soft, smelled great, not too heavy (we are both hot sleepers), but works wonderfully in all seasons, and frankly, they became my favorite sheets. From day one to now, these sheets have been on my bed more than any other sheet to the point I've sewed up rips from our dogs just so that I can continue to use them. So when we updated the look of our bedroom, I was excited to buy another set. I went to my order history, found my original order, and followed the link straight to this. I was beyond thrilled they were still producing these, and as soon as I found the right color, I bought them and waited for them to come like a kid at Christmas. I was so stoked when they arrived today, and as soon as the sweet delivery driver set them at my door, I snatched them up and went to go put them on my bed. This is where the heart break comes in. Have you ever ordered a pizza with your favorite toppings and waited a good solid 45 minutes for the driver to get there, only for you to open it and realize they put everything on there except your toppings? That's about the best way to describe how I felt. These sheets were the same sheets as I got before (except in a different color), but in what only seemed like the name alone. The first thing I noticed is that the company must have gone through either a buyout or an image change, because the logo and the packaging were totally different. No big deal, companies do this all the time. Doesn't mean the product changes. However, when I opened the box, I noticed that these sheets seemed almost...shiny. I remember the first pair of sheets not being as shiny, but I chocked it up to that sometimes, when product sits in a warehouse, it can get a little dusty, so some companies put a...coating? of some sorts on their fabrics to make sure they don't damage. I don't know for sure if that's a thing, but that's the theory my brain came up with, so I figured, heck, why not wash it and see if it changes. As I pulled them out of the box to do so (per the instructions given in the box), the biggest thing I noticed was that the fabrics FELT different. Now, yes, I've had my favorite set of sheets for well over a year now, and I know that as you wash things over time, they become softer and feel better (hence why vintage is the best), but I mean...these didn't even FEEL like they came from the same company. I distinctly remember being able to take the original sheets out of the plastic zipper container they were in and put them on my bed straight away and lay down to the most comfortable sheets ever. These? I pulled them out and they felt like sandpaper and plastic mixed into one. I went back and checked my order history, because I was so sure I had accidentally ordered from a different manufacturer.... Nope. Same one. I couldn't understand what had happened. Maybe they no longer were made from cotton but some polyester blend? Nope, label says 100% cotton, and so does the product description on Amazon. There's a note on the wrapping inside the packaging instructing you to "Unlock the Softness: long wash before use." I thought that maybe they were just stiff from sitting on a shelf for so long, so I would wash them and see if anything changed. I put them in the washer and dryer using the settings recommended in the pamphlet thing they insert in the box, and after pulling them out of the dryer, the texture of the fabric didn't feel better, but seemed to actually get worse (although the shininess was gone). I washed them a second time, thinking that maybe if I wash them the way I normally wash sheets, maybe something might loosen up. Once again, a big nope. It was at this point that I decided that if I have to continuously wash an almost $50 purchase over and over again, potentially ruining the fabric in the long run by accidentally causing a rip or tear in the seam, just for it to get to the level of quality that I had previously experienced from day one with the same exact product, then it really wasn't worth my time and money. I went ahead and sent customer support an email and returned these disappointing things. I can honestly say, I feel like I lost something today. Time? Yes. Water? Most definitely. The trust of a company that I have been hyped about for over a year? Absolutely. Even now, I'm holding out hope that maybe, just maybe, I got a bad batch of product. Because up until today, I couldn't understand why anyone wouldn't love these sheets. But now I get all of the other one star reviews. I hope that CDD can explain what happened, and get back to the sheets I know and love. One day, maybe I'll go to a Macy's and actually feel the product to see if they still make the kickbutt sheets I fell in love with, but for now, I'll be spending my money elsewhere. I'll update if I get a reply from CS.
