Speeds up cooking time, but you still won't be saving time.
I thought I was upgrading from a $20 rice cooker that I use for rice, quinoa, lentils, steamed eggs, and steamed vegetables. This was just a very expensive downgrade. While the Instant Pot claims that it speeds up cooking time by up to 70%, it still takes an extra 20 minutes for the pot to reach the appropriate pressure to start cooking and around 20 MORE minutes after cooking to release pressure before you can even open the lid. If you choose to bypass the final 20 minutes of cooling and pressure release by manually releasing the steam, it will loudly spew very hot steam all over your cabinets and walls and I've had liquid from my food spew out as well, getting all over the pot and counter. Very disappointed in this product. I wish I hadn't used it so that I can return it with no additional fee. I miss my rice cooker.
