Here's the real scoop on this item...
My husband surprised me with this turntable for our anniversary and starting a vinyl collection for Christmas. I was so excited to finally get it and my first record. I put my brand new 180 gram imagine dragons album and the needle just skated across the top of the record from beat drop to beat drop. I was heartbroken.
I bought another cheap record player to test the album and it skated as well, I knew it was just the cheap platters on these players can't handle new LPs. I returned the other player and I exchanged my record just in case but it skated too. l took the album to my local record store and the owner tested it. I found out that this player had scratched my new record so I had to exchange it again.
In the end, I sent this back and spent more than twice this amount on a new turntable then had to add the speakers. But being able to actually play new quality vinyl is worth it.
So, here's the scoop: if you have some old records, CDs, or tapes laying around and want to play them, this may be for you. If you want to play new records or anything 180 gram, do not buy this item. It. Will. Ruin. Your. Record. And here's why: the platter the record sits on is not the full size of an LP so the LP will skate and skip because the platter spins in waves and the needle is not weighed enough to compensate. It took me hours of research to finally decide this wasn't what I needed for my collection and then return it.
