I can only imagine the rave reviews are from individuals who do not currently own an authentic Silpat baking mat. Curious about the low cost, I ordered this to compare to the one I already owned and purchased from Sur La Table. I could tell even before taking it out of the packaging something was not quite right. These types of baking mats are never meant to be folded in half, which this one was. There was no care taken in shipping it either rolled or flat, as that’s how they’re meant to be stored. Once in my hand, it felt more like a light plastic versus the durable silicone of a Silpat. The entire construction appeared to simply be a cheapened replica. I cannot speak to its efficacy as I returned it immediately, so it could still very well be a perfectly useful baking mat. For those looking for an authentic Silpat however, I would encourage you to purchase from a trusted retailer. Bed Bath & Beyond, Sur La Table & Williams and Sonoma all carry them.
