very different from the book
The movie didn't do the book justice at all; why would you change all of the best parts of the book, if there wasn't even a need for it? What message was the director trying to accomplish by making the changes? It is clear to me that the director is not gay and doesn't understand/care about the implications of changing the ending the way she did. For so long, in books and film, the story of lesbian love never ended well, as if to suggest because of our orientation, we didn't deserve to have happiness. So to take a book where it ended well, and make a movie posing the opposite, was just so upsetting and disappointing. And completely regressive of the LGBT strides made up to this point.
And god, so lesbians can't be together at the end, but bees will save you once a psychic, magical connection is made with them. w.t.f.
