This magazine re-writes history
Two issues ago, I would have said this magazine was great. It has interesting and informative stories and seemed like a good way to engage my kids and improve their reading stamina. And then they published a story that referred to people enslaved by George Washington as "workers" and described what I can only assume was intensive labor in light fluffy terms. Ex: "someone had to milk the cow." "Someone else went to get ice..." as if this is all just an easy task that a random person was perfectly happy (and paid) to do. This is a horrible attempt to whitewash history and discount all the labor Black people have been forced to provide this country. The word choice used here intentionally closed off an opportunity to introduce young children to a shameful but important aspect of US History in a simple way; and tried to hide the fact that everyone who served Washington was enslaved by him. I will not be continuing my subscription.
