Derivative and silly
My first objection is to the fact that Hetheridge is a titled peer, working as a police superintendent. Rip-off Elizabeth George's Lynley much? My second objection is that Kate is more than insubordinate, she is insufferably rude and vulgar. It stretches one's incredulity to think that Hetheridge would fall for her. Though he claims she is beautiful, I never got to any description of her. Certainly he has seen plenty of beautiful women, there's no explanation of why she gets his attention. There's no mystery to what becomes of Kate and Hetheridge, it's right in the title of the series. My third gripe is the number of improbable sub plots: unwanted pregnancies, mentally challenged brother, nephew in trouble at school, dead lover, ex-fiancé's said murdered husband etc. Just too much, almost a parody of English mysteries. If it hadn't been on my Kindle, I'd have thrown it across the room.
