I Read This Book so You Don't Have To-You're Welcome
I have never written a review before, but I had to give out a warning on this one. I gave this one star only because I couldn't leave a blank star. I'm usually a huge Jodi Picoult fan and put my request on this book at the library early so I would get one of the first copies. Thank God I didn't pay for it! If you like reading textbooks on elephant glandular excretions and urine, then you may find this book interesting. It was so boring and redundant that I actually began skimming majority of the book parts written by the central character, Alice (and I never do that). Even after falling asleep twice while reading this thing, I was determined to get to the ending because she usually has a twist that makes it worthwhile. She had a twist, but it was far from worthwhile. I was like, what-the-what??? I felt cheated. The characters weren't even developed enough to make me care about that twist.
I'm not sure how it has received such high ratings especially if you have read Picoult's books before. I haven't cared for her last few books, so I was sure she would be back on her game for this one. I'm not sure if she is having to put out books too quickly due to a contract obligation or if she is just out of ideas. I can see this one following the same outline she's used for others. Same story, different animal, more ridiculous twist. Absolutely ticked over the time I spent sloshing through this book that could have been spent on something well-written.
