Heats well and quickly, tips work well also. The automatic shutoff is a nice feature and the unit is generally well organized. Unfortunately, it doesn't last very long. The part where the tip connects to the handle is a plastic screw on collar. Above that is a metal collar that holds the tip shield and tip. I used this unit for seating staking inserts so I would change the tips about 2-3 times a week by loosening the metal collar. In less than 60 days, after only a small amount of use (< 1 hour a week), the plastic collar just popped off and will no longer screw on. It isn't stripped, it's like the collar expanded or the handle threads shrunk. Either way, it's now out of service and useless only 60 days after purchase. It is cheaply made and not nearly as solid as the less expensive 40w Weller. Considering the price, I am deeply disappointed and would not recommend this unit.
