Most of the 1-star reviews on here are due to the babies grabbing the edge and tossing it over. Surprisingly, my wild one has never done that. I have been quite happy with this mat for the last 5 or 6 months we've been using it. My kid is now almost 17-months old and she was able to scoop food out of the plate and eat it. So the other day she decided to feed me. Aww, so cute right? So I obliged and ate it. The food tasted like soap!!! I was mortified!!! I don't know if this plate as become porous over that last half year of use or what.... but I can't get the smell out! Since realizing the problem I've been washing, airing, sniffing the plate to see if the smell is gone but it is still there! I've always handwashed this mat. Because of the smell, I tossed it in the dishwasher to see if that'll help. Nope... still smelled. I even rinsed it with boiling water. That didn't do anything either. I had purchased 2 mats. A blue one that we used at home and a red one we used at grandma's. The blue one was under heavier use (3-4 times a week) and more washes than the red. Only the blue smells. So in short... it's $50 down the drain. Mat did not last with washings and my kid was eating soap fragrances.
