Appalling support experience. Failed after the first transaction was entered.
Intuit and Quickbooks used to run a respectable outfit. I ran my business from the year 2000 to 2007 using it and running millions of dollars in transactions. I did payroll, merchant services, inventory, and integrated it with my other systems, so I was very happy with it. By contrast I just bought a license for Quickbooks pro Desktop 2018 and installed it. I created a single bill and 2 company records, and when I attempted to import bank data, I got an error. When I contacted their tech support I had the worse, nastiest, deplorable and insidious experience with any company of any size ever and I would NEVER RECOMMEND ANY SERIOUS BUSINESS OWNER TRY THIS PIECE OF SOFTWARE. Not only did they want complete and unattended access to my computer, but they also wanted me to PAY for them to repair their software. The incident went like so:
I installed the software without incident and here were no installation errors. I entered all the required information and activated the license. When I attempted to import data from my bank using a QBO file from the bank, Quickbooks responded with a message stating it could not process the import because it did not recognize the institution's information (Capital One Spark Business - a well-known institution). I called the Quickbooks support line and a tech instructed me to install LogMeIn 123 so he could look into my system and proceeded to show me a long list of errors in my event log. He told me my data is corrupted and he would have to have a technician spend 30 to 90 minutes repairing the data in my machine, but he also told me I would just grant permission to the tech and he would not be talking to me. In other words he would independently work on my machine unsupervised and would call me if needed. All the while this tech was yawning like he had missed a couple of nights' sleep.
Because I have very sensitive personal and business information on my machine, I told the technician I could not allow such a thing. He told me there is no other way. I complained that a brand new installation should not be corrupted like this since I had not even begun to use the program. I entered a total of 1 transaction and created 2 companies. That is it. So I told the technician to immediately process a refund. He proceeded to hang up on me instead.
When I called back, another technician told me I would have to pay for them to repair the error ON A BRAND NEW INSTALLATION OF A PIECE OF SOFTWARE!!! While I was talking to this second technician, the LogMeIn session was active, and someone launched a very obscene, pornographic website on my browser. I am most certain it was done by this first tech that gained access to my system. There's no other explanation for that event.
This is not what you should expect from a respectable software vendor. This is the worst support experience I have EVER had in my 25 years in IT. Not only is it unacceptable that the data be corrupted right from the start having entered a single transaction, but for them to then demand a fee to fix it and to vindictively throw up a pornographic site on my browser is way out of bounds. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE TRUST THIS SOFTWARE OR THEIR TECHNICAL SUPPORT PERSONNEL. And by the way, support is not located in the US. Sounds like they were from India using fictitious American-sounding names. Obviously they do not care about what they do, and have no integrity whatsoever.
Totally appalling. Totally unacceptable. Totally wrong. Do yourself a favor and stay away from this software.
