I was looking for a basic toaster and chose this one based on the good reviews. When it arrived, I was pleased--it looked nice, the slots were plenty big and it didn't take up a huge chunk of real estate on the counter. But upon the very first use this toaster got HOT, particularly the back and metal around the slots. Not just warm, but sizzle your skin hot. It actually began melting the laminate coating off the cabinets above the toaster after one toasting cycle. (See photos.) Should a utensil or plastic bag accidentally fall and make contact with it when heating this would be a huge fire hazard, never mind the kids burning themselves trying to get toast out. I've had plenty of inexpensive toasters and none have functioned this way, so it was returned quickly.
