Itchy mattress !! Or did I got a lemon?
Did not put a very high expectation, but the itches made this product short even for the low expectation bar Initially did not even bother to make a review, but this is it! Cannot bear the itches. Not a rush judgment - true user experience ====================SUMMARY=========================== SMELL : 7 out of 10 : livable COMFORT : 5 out of 10 : you get what you paid for - comfort diminishing with time ITCHES : bonus thrown-in WARRANTY: seems cannot be enforced, but I may be wrong RETURN : doesn't look have any chances of return, but I'm still trying OVERALL: Great bargain, you get what you paid for. Caveat Emptor. NEVER EVER EVER EVER remove the velour cover, glass cloth cause itch. Great service & free shipping by amazon. Item description possibly contain double-entrende marketing hype. Mattress look great when not being used. Disclaimer: I am not working for competing company in attempt to lower the review rating. Not a bed expert - just a regular user. Would be happy enough with the purchase, minus the itches. ==============Detailed Reviews================ ----SMELL---- Some VOC chemical smell when first unboxed. Husband use same trick to get rid of paint odor: open door & window to ventilate, bowls of water & vinegar, apples in bowls Smell reduced and barely noticed by the third day. So the smell did not bother us too much, but maybe simply because of the flu. ----COMFORT---- Feel firm on the first few tries. The firmness lasted all of like five days. It sank deeper and deeper by day. It left body shaped indentation which noticeably softer. (their marketing speak: "conforms to weight and pressure") The foam is not dense enough for a firm mattress as the 8" easily compressed to 3"-5" inches, even for a regular sized user. Don't expect similar visco-elasticity like to famous brand, this mattress simply bounce back immediately. Didn't make a big fuss, considering the price paid, so try to live with it. ----ITCHES---- Then, after two weeks or so, started to feel the itches - especially bad after sheet & pad change First thought it was insect bites itches, then my spouse asking me whether felt the itch. Husband is rough outdoorsy type, not the sensitive skin kind. Can even fell asleep on carpet and rug without complaint. Immediately re-wash all the linen, vacuum the carpet. Sun shine the light (literally) on it and found the culprit. There are very fine glass-like particulates on the velour cover, can't felt it by hand, can't see it by naked eyes. Under sunlight, it reflect the light. Vacuumed the entire bed - still itches. Removed the velour with intention to wash it, found GLASS CLOTH layer between foam & velour cover and even more particulates floating in the air. IS THAT MATERIAL EVEN SAFE TO USE ON A MATTRESS?? Why even state the velour is washable, when removing it made the glass particulates out? Been vacuuming the bed, carpet and everything in the room religiously to remove the particulates - No avail so far So folk, NEVER EVER EVER EVER remove the velour cover! Your best bet would be to double or triple cover the velour cover with zipped mattress pad and now the kicker........... ----WARRANTY---- Although it was stated 20 years warranty with exclusions such as -change in softness: mine became soft within short period of 3 weeks. -change in recovery of the foam -impression less than 1.5 inch not covered There are no details on how to claim the warranty or who to contact. Cannot find detail on the brand Lucid (the items seems drop shipped via a fulfillment warehouse, coming from factory overseas) Cannot find address/contact of LinenSpa on Amazon There is a www.linenspa.com, but did not explicitly carry Lucid mattress and no address, only e-mail and contact number. Going to call them tomorrow. Seems "The 20-Year warranty provides increased peace of mind for your purchase." is a hype going to post the pic of the warranty soon. ----RETURN---- Amazon return policy stated only partial refund up to 50% for opened return item minus the return shipping charges LinenSpa offers a 30 day satisfaction guarantee for all products "NOT REMOVED" from their original packaging. http://www.amazon.com/gp/help/seller/returns.html/ref=ms_mhelp_return?ie=UTF8&seller=AOFIBMXVIVCJ6 How would one know how bad this product is WITHOUT removing it from the original packaging? LinenSpa expect the buyer to be satisfied with the product just by looking at the item not removed from their original packaging?? Maybe the return would only work for someone who bought mattress without unroll it and hug the roll (with the plastic packaging intact) to sleep??
