DO NOT BUY ECO 27 - THIS IS JUNK!!
DO NOT BUY ECO 27 - THIS IS JUNK!!
After talking to the company and doing some research (apparently not enough) this unit makes all my LED's lights inside and outside my home blink rapidly on and off. And if you are able to get customer service on the phone, each person has a different opinion of how to fix the problem.
While building my new garage I had my electrical service upgraded to a 200amp service. At that time I also had installed the required 3 double pole 40amp breakers and all the new required wiring to replace the old outdated On Demand water heater with the new ECO27 On Demand Water Heater. The install instructions were followed, step by step, I know I oversaw the whole install. OK, I thought everything was good to go.
Well that night as I tried to wash a few dishes by hand, my island kitchen lights were blinking like crazy every time I turned on the hot water. To make matters worse as I ran the water in the shower, by bathroom lights also were blinking; along with my outside security lights. I talking really blinking, non-stop the whole time the hot water is running.
I called the electrician he came out checked everything out and suggested I call the local Power Company and have them check out the line coming into my home. I called Duke Energy, told them about the light blinking problem, they came out did some tests and said everything was working and the right amperage was coming into my home.
After much trying and a few days, I was finally able to get ECO tech support and the installer on the phone at the same time. It was suggested that maybe one of the 40 amp breakers were bad. So all 3 breakers were replaced and everything was tested again, same problem blinking lights!
After several tries and very long hold times (at least 30 to 45 minuets) I was able to get tech support on the phone again. After more testing and a lot of the same tests from the previous tech support guy, it was determined that they would send out a new unit. This was done on my part by filling forms, faxing forms, putting up deposits on my credit card, having the Eco Smart 27 uninstalled, boxing it up and sending it back.
The new unit arrived; again I paid to now have this replacement Eco Smart 27 installed. Everything was tested and again the blinking lights!
I have actually gotten to the point of turning off lights when I do dishes or run the hot water for anything. I now try to complete everything that requires hot water when I get home from a long work day before sunset, cooking, dishes, laundry, showers ect. I guess that is the way ECO Smart saves money on the electric bill; no hot is used after dark.
OK so I have had enough of this blinking light craziness! I again have my entire house checked out switches, plugs, fixtures, ect. Everything is good to go with my home. I was also told that continual blinking lights were not good for the fixtures or the wiring in my home. Scary!
So I contact ECO Smart customer service to find out if they have a fix for the blinking lights? I am told by a very rude tech support man that I need to replace all the ballasts in every light fixture in my home including lamps! I think I actually asked him if he was crazy. At that point I requested a refund for the Defective ECO Smart 27. I was told that their company did not give refunds! And that there was nothing wrong with the water heater.
I hung up and called back to ask for a company supervisor, again on hold, this time I got a woman who seemed annoyed that she was forwarded my call. She did however say that she would look into it and she or someone else would call me back.
I did received a call back from customer service; the customer service guy had me do a few DUMB tests, exemple: reduce the heater temperature to 105, turn on the hot water? Yes the lights still blink, ect When he could clearly see that the ECO 27 was the problem, he then tried to tell me that is was probably the dimmer switches I had in my house. And said I would need to contact the manufacture to find out if the switch's LED setting were properly set on the back of each switch. I told him that I knew for fact they were correctly set as I had talked with the electrician about this setting when they were installed last year. At that point he said then it was probably the transformer from the Power Company and I would need to call them. I told him that had already been done and everything checked out fine. At his point, he said he would have to check call the Power Company himself to see if the right tests had been done! Really! But OK.
Up date: I again had to fax in my Paid Receipt, (second time) and did not receive the promised 4pm call back yesterday. Today when I called the customer service guy, (after all he didn't call me back and at this point I would just like a refund on this defective water heater) I was told that now he would have speak to the installer? ECO has already spoken to the installer several times? The customer service guy also told me that I would have to try to get a refund back from Amazon? But this ECO 27 came from their company not Amazon. The Amazon ECO 27 was returned to the ECO Smart Company. I feel it is just more run around!!!
BOTTOM LINE --- JUNK,, BUYER BEWARE!!!!
