Why can't we leave the political rhetoric out of Children's books?
I consider myself a reasonable, patriotic American who enjoys history. It's ashame that when I'm purchasing a book for my children I always have to check to see if it will be a fair representation and apolitical, but that is the world we live in today. These books seemed cute and had good ratings so I purchased a couple. The first one I read was George Washington and keep in mind this is for 6-7 year olds. I was disappointed when I read about the history of slavery. Of course looking back from the future it wasn't a fair practice even though it still persists in certain Countries today. The book seems to put unnecessary focus on the practice for what a 6-7 year old would need. You can also see from my attached pictures that it gives the idea that George Washington was rich at working at becoming richer. That doesn't seem to be a fair representation of GW or history and seems to have a particular slant to it. I think it's safe to say that all American strive to become successful. The most disturbing part of the book is at the end and my second attached picture. The book seems to surmise that when the Declaration of Independence was written the statement "all men created equal" only applied to white men with land. This is a disgusting left wing portrayal and smear of history and has no purpose in a book for 6-7 year olds. Keep the damn politics and subsequent indoctrination out of these book. I haven't read the Ben Franklin book, but will report if any issues. All I want is a fair representation of history without the politics or a fair representation of both sides of a story. Concerned Parent.
