Eye-candy with an overwrought familial drama inserted for "feels" and ended with a dreadful final act wherein the characters solve all the world's problems using street-smarts, a nerdy high schooler, and limitless resources, while spouting masterbatory evangelical slogans about evil world governments, leaving them to singlehandedly stop the alien invasion, and only superceded in ridiculousness by Jesus-Pratt jumping on an alien and killing it with a knife. It started so well, with a man in a system out of his control and morphed into a savior-complex wet dream. Finally, most of the action scenes have serious pacing issues, for example, we see the aliens overrun a nest, but then five minutes later, the characters emerge and we see the aliens overrun the nest again. Now imagine macho me epically dropping my phone after saving the world with my totally rad movie review while my house blows up behind me and my estranged father hugs me, and you have the emotional tableau of this movie.
