WARNING! After three weeks of my new 3rd gen nest operating normally i had a nightmare situation that could have been deadly due to a malfunctioning nest. We went on vacation and set the house to away at 63*. We get a call from my neighbor who is taking care of our pets 2 days later that our house is 110 degrees! The NEST malfunctioned and turned the furnace on full blast for over 18 hours. Our fish died. Our cat was alive but not doing well. We had to cut short our vacation and drive home to take care of the house. Called NEST and after basic troubleshooting and checking wiring they suggested I let the NEST run for another three weeks to see if it happens again. What kind of thinking is that? They then had me pay for a tech to come out (they are reimbursing me in 4-6 weeks) and look at things. The NEST certified tech basically looked at the device and my wiring and said looks good to me. He then said he would never suggest getting a nest and go get a standard programable t-stat. You know things are bad when the certified nest tech says don't get one. Nest needs to better figure out what furnaces they are compatible with and the ones that will cause havoc. Apparently it is not all about having a couple of wires labeled correctly. I would avoid this product at all costs.
