We purchased the dog treat puzzle toy for our 9 pound chihuahua mix with intentions of keeping her busy and challenging her, as advertised. The first day we used the puzzle was good. She enjoyed learning how the pieces moved in order to find the treats. Perhaps we should have purchased the more advanced puzzle, as she learned how the puzzle worked within the first hour and just started chewing on the pieces of the toy itself...which leads me to why I do not recommend this product. The removable plastic bones that are used to hide the treats are not of high quality. After finding the treats, our small dog chews the pieces and can easily rip pieces of plastic off (see image). These pieces are sharp and small. I find them in her mouth, scattered on the floor, in the carpet, and have had to remove them from the back of her throat. They pose a choking hazard and can cause cuts in her mouth. I am not comfortable letting her play with the toy unattended for fear of her safety and therefore I am not recommending this product. I can only imagine if a larger dog were to chew one of these pieces. They could easily end up eating it and causing more serious internal damage.
