Trash
If you want to watch a show about blacks facing oppression in the the early 1900’s, please watch Lovecraft Country instead. I got to episode 7 and vowed not to watch till the end. As a black woman in America, I find it very disturbing that the black people are all made out to be crazy. We do not turn on our children and I’m more disturbed that a black man would write this trash. It is truly awful and not even well done. It is unsettling, but could never truly be categorized as horror. I hope that my people who watch this see through the propaganda and outright stereotypical portrayal of black Americans. I mean, blackface? Honestly?? The concept is solid, but sold in a seamless way in another show. The aforementioned, Lovecraft Country and that has monsters and time travel and it still makes much more sense that whatever this crap is I’ve been struggling through watching. The acting is phenomenal, the script would’ve been put to better use as kindling. We are not crazy or irrational or violent as the show highlights in the most unfortunate of ways. If we were, there would only be us left. Think on that while you watch something else. This review has nothing to do thinking the show is devisive or that I don’t like history. It has to do with it being utter trash and completely stupid. Black people do not behave that way. And, as a black woman, there were no moments at all where I was proud of the family. And yes I saw her slap her neighbor. I was not impressed. It shouldn’t have taken 7 episodes to get there. Most of the show is black people just looking catatonic and vapid. This was a true waste. And if a show divides you as a nation, you’ve got way more problems than “what to watch.” That argument is infantile.
