Bests & Worsts Reviews from Amazon

Popular review websites recommend this selfie stick, so I trusted them and quickly purchased this. I should have been more suspicious of the lack of Amazon reviews for this product. I really wanted to like this because this selfie stick claims to work without bluetooth. Sounds foolproof, right? NOPE. I plugged in the selfie stick to the headphone jack, as instructed, and the button would not do anything when pressed in the iPhone stock camera app, the Looq DG app they want you to download, or the home screen (when you press the button on the home screen it should change the iPhone volume, as the button just simulates how one can use the volume button to take a picture when not using a selfie stick). My iPhone 6 has the most recent update at the date of this review (iOS 8.2), so perhaps the update broke functionality of this product. Or...I just have a defective product. Your mileage may vary (obviously). As for me, I am immediately returning this. I will wait until there are more positive reviews for this product before trying again, if I try again at all. **UPDATE 4/3/15** I was thinking of buying this and trying it again after Mediahound's helpful comment. But then, I just decided to look at the reviews on this product page again before purchase. I was surprised to find that a few of the most positive 5/5 reviews, as well as some of the people that are commenting on the negative reviews seem highly suspicious. Sometimes this is one of the only product reviews listed in their profile or they are commenting on negative reviews even though they have very few product reviews, if any, to their name. Of course, it could just be coincidence and some of the positive reviews are from real people that honestly like the product THAT much that they go out of their way to make this one of the few products they review. But it also seems like a strange coincidence that people that are pretty inactive in the Amazon review community would go out of their way to not only read the negative reviews but then also go further to comment on them (instead of just doing the easier thing and writing a positive review of the product)... Additionally, all the short one-line positive reviews are quickly upvoted as "helpful," while all the negative reviews are downvoted as "not helpful." Usually you would expect that some negative reviews are voted just as "helpful" as positive reviews...You certainly would not expect all positive reviews to universally be voted as helpful and all negative reviews universally voted as not helpful...I mean, many of the negative 1-star reviews I have given other products are generally considered and voted by many to be extremely helpful. This simultaneously annoys me and confuses me. I mean, obviously this company designed a pretty good product and got attention from some big-time review websites, which is why I tried giving it a shot. I got a defective unit, so this company obviously have some quality control issues. Instead of tightening up their quality control issues (the most recent negative review of this product was written by someone that just received a defective unit of this product yesterday, on 4/2/15), it seems like they think it may be more economical to just cheat the review system and trick more people into buying this product. Other companies ignore reviews and just work hard on making a good product and standing behind it. Some other companies on Amazon also look at negative reviews, see the reviewer received a defective product, ship another item to the reviewer for free in exchange for a second chance, and see the reviewer change the 1-star to 5-stars. This company...decides to do this... This behavior says a lot about a company. You decide if you want to support it.
