Does not replace ironing board
When I first saw this product I thought it was pure genius. As an off-campus college student, space is very crucial in my apartment and I was not thrilled about buying a huge ironing board. I purchased this instead of a full-sized board after reading the positive reviews, but soon I learned that sacrifices were made for the convenience of this product. - This works for small items and quick fixes, but when I want to iron my shirts and pants, I find that I have to get a little creative in how I place them on the mat. Otherwise, my sleeves tend to wrinkle against the dryer controls, lay on the floor, or even worse, touch the back of the dryer which is not safe for man, nor beast, nor fabric... I tend to miss the ability to hang the sleeves down on both sides of the ironing board, without worrying that it will wrinkle, get dirty on the floor, or get some lint on it. - In addition, I've noticed that the product image shows a shirt sleeve being ironed on the mat. I would like to point out that what they don't show is that the other shirt sleeve is resting on the floor with all the miscellaneous lint, hair and dust that accumulates there. I do not appreciate the misleading photo. (edit: The creators have changed the product image. While I appreciate that it no longer shows the misleading image, I find it interesting that they now show a magnetic ironing mat on a wooden table.) Other things for users to keep in mind when purchasing this product: - After using this product, I realized that my dryer is not completely flat on top. It has a border that's around half a centimeter high that I didn't even notice until I bought this product. This ironing mat isn't nearly thick enough to make up for this small height difference. Since it's difficult to see where the border is when the mat is on top of the dryer, it's easy to iron over it, causing clothes to crease. This is not a complaint on the product itself, since others may have dryers that don't have this problem, but this product might have worked for me if it had more padding. - Also, my lint screen is located on the top of my dryer. If you are like me and plan on leaving this mat on top of your dryer (instead of putting it away after each use) be warned that it will attract lint. Luckily it's easy to roll up and put away, provided you have someplace to keep it near your dyer and away from all the lint. Overall, this mat is irritating to use when ironing shirts and pants. It works well for small items (like ties) and is a decent addition to a full-sized ironing board. However, it is definitely not a replacement.
