Far from my Sony expectations
I've been a Sony fan for 30 years. I have to believe this unit is not designed and/or built by Sony but carries the brand name under a license or something. This is the sad state of globalized products today - you can't trust the brand by reputation any longer. The unit has a minimal interface - one LED and two buttons. It has no manual "eject darnit" override and you have no idea what the status is if the video out is off and no direct control if you suspect something wrong with the remote. The player ate a DVD and fell into a parental control mode forbidding me to eject the disk and failed to allow me to override the parental control. Eventually after several power cycles and resets I was able to coax the disk out, but afterwards it has been unable to update its software despite a wired network connection. (The network works, but the update turns off the player and reports failure some time later if I turn it on to check.) There is no feedback on progress or why the failure and the recommendation to use USB is no help, as the Sony site does not provide such updates. I will update this if Sony customer support comes through, but I have to strongly urge staying away from this model. The other two blu-ray players in my house are also Sony and have always worked flawlessly. I'd hoped to keep things simple by having similar remotes and controls, but - no luck.
