"Caveat Emptor," I guess...
Wow...this might be the most disappointing product I've purchased in a long time. I guess it's my fault, I've certainly learned a lesson here about paying close attention to the product description and customer reviews! "It's just a magazine holder, THEY'RE ALL THE SAME!" is what I thought when I purchased this product on price alone. BOY WAS I WRONG! The first red flag was when it arrived in a very flat box...way too flat to fit five magazine holders! Yes, I know, I already admitted I should have paid closer attention and realized the customer has to fold these together...but let's talk about that, shall we? It says these are made of "heavy duty plastic." Heavy duty? Please. "Heavy duty plastic" is what my trash barrel is made out of. This is a flimsy, floppy, miserable sheet of vinyl that's about as "heavy duty" as the magazine paper it was designed to hold! In fact, it's so flimsy and floppy that these holders don't stand up by themselves unless they're packed full...if you put just a few magazines in it instead of filling it, the way they lean to one side will make the whole thing fall over. You have to pack it completely full so the magazines stand up straight, or the whole thing is useless. Either that, or you need to use bookends! More about the assembly: the description says they're "easy to assemble." That, I admit, is true. You just fold the flaps, tuck the tabs in, and you're done. Very easy to assemble...and very easy to disassemble, too! The weight of the magazines it holds is too much for the flimsy plastic, which bends enough that the tabs holding it all together pop out and the magazines fall out the bottom when you take it off the shelf. If you put in fewer magazines to reduce the weight, you get back to the first problem I described: it won't stand up on its own. Think of it this way: y'know how you close a box of cereal by tucking that tab on one flap into the little slot on the other flap? Would you trust that tab to hold the flaps shut if you turned the whole box upside down? Of course not, you know the tabs will pop open and you'll have cereal all over the floor. That's how this lousy product is designed, with those flimsy flaps holding the whole thing together on the BOTTOM of the product with all the weight of the contents straining against it. It's like someone intentionally designed this product to fail.
