My hands got too cold
Keep shopping. Does this keep the water from freezing? Yes. Is it easy to use? In a nutshell, NO. You're out in the freezing temps (because that's why you ordered a heated wateter) to refill water...first you unscrew the top & bring it inside the house to refill. Now it's full of water and there's no place to hang in to it except holding underneath. And it's open with water sloshing, so you have to be careful. Sure you could unplug the base and drag it with you trailing the cord behind, but ours is in a chicken coop. The cord was run through the wire and we're covering the plug with a plug cover for safety. So that would mean undoing all that every other day and redoing it out in the freezing cold. OK, so back to teetering this full water container without a lid...after you stroll through the house slopping water you get to the door...hope there's someone home to open the door. If not, your tucking this nasty wet container against you and holding it as careful as possible with 1 arm while you open the door to go back into the freezing cold. Now trudge back to the chicken coop and again snug the container with 1 arm while you open the coop. The birds all flock to you, because well, that's what they do, and you grab the bottom tray and after several attempts with freezing hands you think you've aligned the bottom just right, twist it to lock into place. You think you're home free now because you're losing feeling in your fingers...flip this bad boy over to sit it down only to realize the bottom was just ever so slightly out of line and it blows apart. Water explodes out the bottom and now your pants, muck boots, and chickens are soaked. And now you start over. Bottom line, get a heated dog water bowl. Plus it's cheaper.
