Can not actually record 4k most features are can't be used.
UPDATE: Lorex software is no longer running on new OS's. Their apps are still 32bit even though all computers went to 64 more than 10 years ago. As new OS updates are finally dropping 32bit support their app can not run at all. And Lorex has no fix for this or even has any plans to at lest get their software updated to within the last decade.
I have worked with systems like this before so my expectations of the software were already low, but this is absurdly bad.
The one pro is the video is amazing if you can get it working at all, which is a moot point since it will can not actually be set to record that level of detail, and the extra wide angle lenses spread out the resolution over a much wider area, so just like the lower resolution ones they do not work well passed 15ft.
Cons:
o The built in interface is un-useable. Even Lorex support will tell you not to use it.
o The web interface only works on browsers from three years ago.
o The FLIR Cloud desktop app is so out dated even my two year old laptop is too NEW for it.
o The FLIR Cloud desktop app they told me to use has not been updated since 2014.
o Their own support web site was down for at least four days and there was no embarrassment about that, or urgency to do something.
o FLIR Cloud Management app will only let you set it to record at 1080P resolution making the 4k detail useless
o FLIR Cloud Management app will not let you set it to record with H.265 compression.
o Even if you can get H.265 working Lorex's desktop app does not support it so you can not view video with H265 compression.
o Uses extra wide angle lenses so the extra resolution is spread out much further so not a lot of extra detail.
o Only records 15 frames per sec so anything moving is blurry. So extra resolution is useless unless the subject is standing perfectly still.
o Due to all the limits of its actual resolution it still can not read license plates or clearly see a face more than 15ft from the camera, which again assumes they are not moving.
o Motion detection can be triggered by a leaf blowing across the driveway, but does not pickup my car driving in.
o Motion detection triggers in areas it is told not to monitor.
o It lacks the processing power needed to process video, so when reviewing video it is common for it to freeze or cut out.
o Camera mounts can only be adjusted in one direction. Up and down. If you need to turn them you will have to completely remove the mount and re drill it every time you want to adjust the camera potion. So will end up with lots of screw holes in the locations mounted.
o Software is impossible to figure out without support, and support does not answer the phone or call back.
o Right out of the box it says it already needs a firmware update, but the web site does no show any firmware available for it.
o Their apps software is un-signed so most operating systems by default will not install them.
o No matter how strong you make the password on the NVR it will only use the first 6 characters for remote access. Which means your device if connected to the internet could easily be brute force hacked.
