Category should be “date-rape fantasy”
I got this one for free, thinking it would be good literature since the category was “contemporary fiction”. Somehow I missed that it’s a romance novel.
Thought not my preference, I see the joy of a romance novel. However, I cannot tolerate one that fanticizes rape. The Clay character repeatedly ignores Daphne telling him no to sex. This is jut not okay. In a world where we’re emphasizing that “no” does, in fact, mean “no”, a date rape scene in a novel perpetuates the idea that women really do want to have sex, even when their words plainly say that they do not. We have to cut the ambiguity in life and in fiction and make it clear that it is not going to work out great in the end if a guy ignores a woman and pushes her to have sex anyway.
