Checking facts matters...
I got this book free on bookbub and thought I’d try it out once I realized the writing seemed better than most free ebook deals I run across. However, I very quickly realized that the content edits—or the lack thereof—left much to be annoyed about. The book starts out in Scotland in 1816 and in a silly conversation with his butler, the hero discusses the fact that the wedding invitation in his hand might not (hopefully?) mean London, ENGLAND... (even though it mentions St. George’s....) and somehow this butler, in Scotland, would know enough about North American geography to offer that it might mean the tiny little village in Ontario, Canada named London...??? 10 years before it was even settled??? A simple google search/Wikipedia search will tell you anything you need to know about settlement dates and the such. And really... would a butler in Scotland know about Canada? And if he does, give him GOOD REASON to know. It takes one well-placed sentence. But then the author also went on to describe London, Ontario as being in UPPER Canada—which is the farthest thing from the truth, even had the dates been correct. London, Ontario is about as far south as you can get while still being in Canada. The author lost me here, basically on the first page, forever.
