BUYER BEWARE
This is a complete scam. These knives are marketed extremely well towards people who are not Knife Makers or Chefs who know their stuff (I’ll start by admitting that I am one of those people, and I fell for this too. Then after doing research I felt it necessary to rely the information I found to others who might make the same mistake). The company has a nice flashy website and uses lustrous wording to lure you in but never gives any specific details of the HRC, bevel, or alloy beyond “Honshu steel”. Honshu is just the main island in japan and doesn’t refer to any sort of steel itself. That’s like saying “made from the mainland of the USA”, and before that, they advertised it as “Niigata steel”, which again, is just a location. Not to mention that these knives are actually made in China, not japan. If you do further research than just looking here on amazon (you can actually find some people stating it’s a scam in the questions section) or on their website, you will find multiple threads where actual knife makers and chefs talk about how they’ve never heard of the company and that it is a “hype scam” luring you in with periodic 80% off sales. You might be pleased with your knives because they’re sharp and shiny, but if you compare them to other knives in the same price range from established and reputable companys you’ll see that they are not anywhere near worth the MSRP and that even with the discount you can definitely find better knifes for less. Fakespot shows at least 40-60% of the reviews being unreliable with the rest likely being people who just don’t know better because this is their first investment into “a quality knife” (like me). There are also quite a few who even doubt that these are hand-made and are instead a stamped blade. I also found someone claiming to have been hired by Kamikoto (or their marketing company) to wash all links of bad reviews off of google. I am not here to tell you that this is fact (although I’m 100% sure it is). Nor am I here to tell you whether or not to buy these knives (don’t buy them), as I’m not your mother or a culinary expert, and that’s your decision. However; I do implore you to do thorough research before diving in head first to this, and any purchase, so you are not surprised or disappointed by the product you receive. Thank you for your time, and I hope I helped in any way I could. I would also like to add—when I contacted Kamikoto within 24 hours requesting a cancellation and refund of my order they were actually very prompt and courteous throughout the process, and that is why I’m giving them 2 stars instead of 1. (Although if I had contacted them out of their 24 hour cancellation policy things might have been quite different). Update: Took away the second star because I commented on one of their Instagram posts where someone asked for the specifics of the metal they use and I told him they didn’t have it anywhere on their site so buyer beware and they deleted my comment. So I posted it again just to be sure and they deleted that one too. Lol total sham of a company. Don’t give them your money. TL;DR- Don’t buy these worthless scraps of metal.
