They'll kill what you love and wear its skin as a suit.
I don't know what this is but I know it is not the Wheel of Time. Robert Jordan wrote a masterpiece of epic fantasy exploring a multitude of the many aspects of the human condition. This feels like a hollowed out shell that looks superficially similar but is lacking in any depth. It seems the showrunners lack any understanding on how to create tension and interest. Jordan did it by focusing the story down to the main characters and explores the world through their eyes in the first book. The reader doesn't see much of the political intrigue that dominates the later books. The world is new and the characters are innocent. The wider conflict is on the outer edge of the story. This allows Jordan to explore his characters without having to explain any more than necessary. The main characters from the two rivers are naive which allows Jordan to do the explanations he needs to do in a natural way. Moiranne Sedai is mysterious and Lan is taciturn. So Jordan trickles information from side characters to slowly fill the reader in on what is an amazingly dense and diverse world. This show is lacking in all of these techniques thrusting the viewer into a confusing world that has not been properly explained with one-dimensional characters that lack the innocent charm of the originals. The political pandering in the show is annoying but if the rest was done correctly then it would be only a nuisance. But lacking any plot or character development it dominates the show hence the thousands of negative reviews. It was also completely unnecessary because the WOT world was already very diverse. It already explored the positive and negative aspects of masculine power and feminine power. It explores the tension between top down authority and bottom up emergence as well as between tradition and progress. The problem with this show isn't that they made changes to the story. That was inevitable. The problem is the show is bad and hard to watch. The books had a "page turning" quality that the reader was excited to see what is next. The show is boring and lifeless. After trying to watch the fourth episode I have lost interest.
