Not as great as originally thought (UPDATED)
UPDATE on 19 July 2022, after 18 months of use:
It's taken a while, but the flaws have added up and I can no longer recommend this chair. The lack of height adjustment (I have an original where the height adjustment is non-functional) has lead to some chiropractic issues due to ergonomics and the seat is just too firm. The straw that broke the camel's back, literally, is that one of the bolts/screws holding the back cushion to the support stripped out recently - apparently I leaned asymmetrically one too many times on it. It's essentially non-repairable since it stripped the hole AND the connection point is underneath the permanent upholstery.
UPDATE on 29 December 2021, after nearly a year of daily use:
This chair works great for me and I hold to my original 5-star rating. As another reviewer noted, this is not the chair for everyone. It does not have especially soft cushions, fancy lumbar support, etc. You might say this chair is for the "active" sitter.
The short backrest is the perfect height to facilitate stretching and provides just enough support that you don't feel like you're going to fall backwards. The sufficient but not floofy cushioning - plus casters on both the seat and footstool - mean that shifting position is easy.
Note that I have the original version, with the apparently non-functional height adjustment, less padding, and no brake on the footstool - so I can't comment on those features. Do note that the material is "polyurethane leather" not real leather; my cats have put some annoying scratches in the material and I've had to put a seat cover over the main seat for prevention.
ORIGINAL REVIEW (January 6, 2021):
Bottom line up front: really comfortable for cross-legged and other non-standard sitting positions, but the backrest isn't very helpful for folks who sit up straight.
I just got the chair today and given how few reviews there are, I wanted to share my initial impressions.
Pros:
- Well packaged. The outer box was damaged in transit, but everything inside was well protected.
- Easy to setup. The roller feet took a little more push than I'm used to putting on anything designed to fit together; don't be afraid to put some oomph into them (after making sure you have them aligned). Otherwise very straightforward.
- Perfect difference in height between the seat and the footstool. It's incredibly comfortable to sit cross-legged.
- Nice wide footstool. I'm pretty short, so there's a big margin when I sit cross-legged and there's plenty of space to sit is various other non-standard positions (I'm looking you, fellow ADHDers).
- Good casters that even work on carpet. I alternate between sitting and standing, so I'm disinclined to lay down a hard plastic floor mat and this chair moves easily anyway.
Con:
- Backrest leans too far back for me and isn't adjustable. I know I sit more upright than most folks, so it may be fine for others. Sitting normally, I only make contact with the bottom edge of the rest. To make full contact with the backrest I have to lean back more than I normally would, which forces me to slouch a bit (not ideal for long sessions of sitting). I'd prefer a backrest with adjustable angle. Note/clarification: You can adjust the position of the backrest, but not the angle.
I'll update with a longer-term review in a few weeks.
