2015 version - worked great. 2018 version - terrible quality control; safety hazard, unusable.
Let me preface this review by stating that we have purchased many Boon products for our young children, including the 2015 model of the Flair highchair for our elder toddler son which has performed great and withstood a fair amount of abuse over 2+ years. So when it came to selecting a highchair for our infant daughter, it was pretty automatic for us to decide on the Flair again, despite the price having gone up ~$50 since our original purchase. Well, much to our dismay and frustration, the current model of the Flair has been an absolute disaster. The first unit that was shipped to us was a lawsuit waiting to happen - once fully assembled, the locking mechanism on the metal support tube that keeps the chair (and the tube) attached to the base, failed cleanly and repeatedly after using the height adjustment pedal to raise it to full height. Watch the attached video to see what I mean. Thankfully we did not have our child in the seat when we first discovered this safety hazard; it would have most certainly resulted in a fall if that were the case. I only hope Amazon has truly RMA'd this unit back to the manufacturer and not kept it in circulation for someone else to have the misfortune to experience. Despite the obvious quality control issue, we opted for the comped replacement unit from Amazon, taking a chance that we would be fortunate enough to get a unit that would perform as well as our 2015 unit. Sadly, once the replacement unit was assembled, two more issues became clear: 1. Thanks to an absolutely senseless design change, the maximum height of the seat of the current Flair, at full extension, is a good 3 inches shorter than our 2015 model (see photo). Yet the lowest height setting remains the same. Why do this? Spoonfeeding a child now requires an awkward crouch when standing, and when our daughter gets to toddler age she will be eating at a height significantly below a standard kitchen island counter or pub-height dining table where the rest of her family is sitting. 2. The orange plastic tray cover doesn't attach flush to the tray base in any way; if pressed down firmly it simply pops off (or would fall off if the tray was flipped over). The plastic tray cover simply does not line up with the inset grooves of the tray itself. Another manufacturing/QA fail by Boon. We will be contacting the manufacturer to report the latest defects, as this isn't really Amazon's fault. Safe to say we are extremely disappointed in how the design, safety, and quality of this product has gone downhill since 3 years ago. Cannot see how we can use this product again.
