CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!... Steam authetication REQUIRED!
Nowhere on Amazon does it say that you must activate and run this game through STEAM, and yet you do. As far as I'm concerned that's false advertising through omission, and I intend to return this game.
This is the exact same reason I gave Fallout New Vegas one star: when I pay 60 bucks for a hard-copy disc version of a game, I expect it to install and run through the disc, not through some third-party of whom I'm not even aware when I BUY the thing.
Which raises the other issue: I BOUGHT this game, I didn't rent it. When I BUY something, I expect to be able to resell it when I'm through with it. I can do that with a ten dollar book and a $40,000 car, but I CAN'T do it with a game I've "bought" that requires STEAM to run.
I've read some of the comments on the other reviews that raise this issue, so let me say this to all you STEAM fanboys: I've been playing video games probably longer than you've even been alive. Don't bother telling me that it's "the way things are done now" or that I should "get with modern times" or any of that other stuff. I'm not interested, and I don't care. Look up what it means to BUY something in a dictionary.
This is a cynical attempt by the developers to limit ownership rights -- and again, fanboys, don't bother referring me to the user's agreement, because I don't give a rip -- and I sincerely hope their sales are hurt by this review and the others.
DO NOT BUY THIS GAME!!!!!!!!!
(UPDATE: since writing this review, Amazon did add one line to the product description mentioning the Steam requirement. That was solely due to the effort of one reviewer, Eric DiPier, who knew about something called the "catalogue update form" and used it to get Amazon to update their product description on 11/14/11. Kudos to Eric!)
