Sturdy, but looks like it was built by orcs
The only thing positive that I can say about this product is that it's sturdy. Solid aluminum bent to the shape of a phone stand. That said, here are the deficiencies: 1. The edges of the stand were quite rough. Enough so that I didn't want to put my new iPhone on it for fear of getting scratched badly placing it on and taking it off the stand. Lucky I have a home workshop that is reasonably well equipped. I first sanded down both sides to even them out and remove the compression marks left by the bending. Then I spent some quality time with files and diamond rasps easing all the sharp corners. Because of the design, there are a LOT of edges and corners to work with. 2. There are foot pads on the bottom for the stand, as well as pads on the lip for the phone to sit on, but the back of the stand is raw (and rough) aluminum. I attached some small pads of teflon tape to keep the phone from getting scratched from this surface. 3. The bottom ledge is too steeply angled, which makes it difficult to press the Home button on my phone while in the stand. I remedied this by redoing the bend and making it shallower. So after about an hour of my time, I've got a stand that should provide good service for the foreseeable future. There is really nothing to break on this thing. I'll most likely end up replacing the pads but that's about it. It could get run over by a car and suffer only minor damage. Did I mention that it took 49 days to arrive from China? Talk about slow boats... Edit 4/25/15: The seller contacted me, asking that I change my rating to four stars. Apparently, my comments about their product stung. They even shipped a replacement stand to me, which arrived in three days - go figure. The new stand was identical to the original, so I declined to modify this review since no material facts had changed. They have since offered me a refund on the stand, which I've declined as I'm using the stand and am quite happy with it after I modified it to account for the shortcomings of its manufacture. I maintain that the purpose of a product review is to fairly represent the product being offered. I feel I've done that with this stand, and hope that anyone (maybe another orc?) that is looking for a massively sturdy stand who is unconcerned with rough edges will be able to purchase one of these with confidence that they will be getting exactly what I've described.
