★★☆☆☆
Good writing, ok story, bad wrap up.
This story had so much potential but by the time I finished the book I felt cheated. It's difficult not to give anything away so I will just say I do like Gillian Flynn's writing very much and Gone Girl had the potential to be a great book. It's a clever idea but it is completely mucked up by the way the author chose to end the story. The wrap up (very important to fans of the mystery genre) is almost non-existent. This was one of those books you can't put down, a real age-turner, until you read the last page and say, "that's it?". Now I feel like I wasted my time. It's like watching a television series, you catch all but the last episode and are left wanting. Unfortunately there are no re-runs of a book so I will never "catch the final episode". I was enjoying the book so much that I almost recommended it to several people while I was reading it, now I'm glad I didn't. I will try another of the authors books because as I said I like the writing very much, I just hope the next one does not make me feel cheated.
