Allergy
I love these snacks but they can cause anemia! I couldn't donate blood for the 1st time ever! I found out I'm allergic to fava beans! "Favism (G6PD deficiency). Favism is an inherited disease in which a person lacks an enzyme called glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase (G6PD). When these people eat fava beans, they develop a condition called hemolytic anemia. This anemia causes red blood cells to break apart and block blood vessels"
This is awful, I threw the snacks away, unable to return. There should be a warning!
"the beans can sicken and even kill some people -- most often children -- who eat them."
"people of Mediterranean origins (Spaniards, Italians, Greeks, Armenians, and Jews). Susceptibility to favism" I'm Italian.
"As many as 400 million people worldwide have G6PD deficiency."
"fava beans can increase the levels of reactive oxygen species, causing red blood cells to be destroyed faster than the body can replace them"
"A certain percentage of people deficient in that enzyme are unable to process fava-bean toxins, which begin destroying red blood cells."
