Got a one-or-two-year-old rice
The pack of rice I got had no rice flavor or taste and seems to absorb less water than normal rice, which means that it is not able to produce a sticky texture, and each grain taste dry. Also, each grain of rice have cracks inside them, feels dry when you touch it, and breaks sometimes when being washed.
All of these are symbols that the rice are old rice that are at least one year old. The rice probably had been harvested at least a year or two ago, and has been sitting in their warehouse for the entire time. Although the rice does not go bad and is still edible, it loses its flavor and texture, just like frozen chicken vs. fresh chicken. As frozen chicken is a lot cheaper than fresh chicken, Nishiki should not sell old rice at the price of new quality rice.
I have been eating Nishiki rice (the same product) for 2 years since I came to U.S. I have been buying them in local supermarkets, and those products were fresh and good. When I cooked the rice I received from Nishiki on Amazon, it could immediately tell that it is a lot worse than Nishiki rice that I previously bought, and they are using old rice to cheat on customers.
From all the previous low-star reviews on Amazon, it seems like Nishiki has been placing all the rice stocks that they could not sell properly, including old stocks or ones that have bugs, on the amazon platform to cheat the customers. This is a really bad business practice and I hope Nishiki can stop it!
