Sceptre Screens are Great Buy, but Inexpensive for a Reason
Sceptre offers inexpensive screens that are often hundreds of dollars below competitor prices. I have purchased many of their products over the years including two of the 27" 4K monitors. Both arrived promptly with same day shipping from Amazon, with one of the boxes damaged. However, the contents looked fine as I opened the boxes. Assembly was quick and easy. The stand is mounted with four screws. A screwdriver is included in the box. There are two HDMI ports, a DVI port, and a Displayport connection. The monitor looks beautiful. The bezel is small (approx. .5"), but not ultrathin.
Now for the reason of their cheap price - terrible quality control and low standards. I had previously purchased four Sceptre monitors. Of the four, two were defective. I exchanged them and received one working monitor and one defective monitor. I again exchanged that defective monitor and finally received a working monitor. I have also recently purchased two 65" Sceptre TVs. Why would I continue buying this brand after a terrible experience? Price. No one comes close to the price of their products. AND, if you receive a good one, it should last. I've been using the four monitors for three years without any problems, and the televisions both arrived in good condition without defects.
HOWEVER - When I received the two 27" 4K Sceptre monitors, BOTH arrived showing stuck pixels (glowing bright white on one; and blue, green, and red on the other). They never change color and are visible all the time. On a new 4K monitor, or any other for that matter, I consider this unacceptable. NOT SCEPTRE! According to their website, these problems wall within their quality control standards. Here's a quote, "Pixels defects within industry specifications are inherent to this type of product and do not constitute a defective product. SCEPTRE sets limit on the LCD at 3 dead pixels in a cluster adjacent to each other, or 5 dead pixels in a combination of color and brightness. Any number of dead or bad pixels under the limit is considered to be within normal performance specification of the LCD and is not considered defective."
SCEPTRE may deem this ok, but I would dare say that few consumers would. So now, I wait for two more monitors to see if I need to exchange them again until I get working products. If you're ok with doing this, you'll save a lot of money going with this brand. If you don't want the headache and bother, I would suggest looking elsewhere.
UPDATE: I received two SCEPTRE replacement monitors from Amazon. The shipments were delayed, but that is another story. One had several dead pixels, the other had multiple stuck pixels. I'm going to keep the one with the dead pixels, mainly because I need the monitor, and I'm tired of this process. The other, I'm sending back. So in review, of the total of twelve SCEPTRE screens that I have purchased over the past 3 years, six arrived with either dead or stuck pixels. Of the 4K SCEPTER screens I have purchased, all of them have had dead and stuck pixels.
