Let's get down to brass tacks: I originally bought this monopod to use with a compact tripod at locations that forbade the use of a full tripod. However, the problem I have with this monopod is Manfrotto's insistence on making your life difficult by forgoing the standard 3/8" threaded foot spike and using a non-standard size. They chose to use a 5/16" diameter so you're forced to purchase accessories from them and limits the compatibility with anything else you already own. I did the research and shortly thereafter I returned it, refusing to monetarily support a company that's so hostile toward their paying customers. So, I'm choosing to share this info with buyers so they're not left in the lurch as it's not my position to judge how you spend your money; it's my responsibility to help you overcome a thoughtless design. So, if you insist on buying this monopod because you can't be bothered to spend $20 more for another brand that uses standard threads from top to bottom, you'll need an adapter. That adapter is commonly used in the archery world for weights to balance compound bows: 5/16"-24 to 1/4"-20. This will adapt the foot of the Manfrotto monopod to a standard tripod screw and allow you to add a compact tripod or spike to the foot of the monopod. Search Amazon for "Doinker Adapter Screw 5/16 to 1/4" and you'll get the part you need to adapt the foot of this monopod for standard accessories. You're welcome. However, after buying both the monopod and the necessary adapters, it'd would have been more cost effective to have bought a properly designed monopod in the first place; even the Amazon Basics carbon monopod has a 3/8" foot and is about the same price after you add the cost of adapters.
