Let me start by saying that I am obviously not the target demographic for this book. It seems to be aimed at the 13 year old girl market. Therefore, if you are a 13 year old girl, you might find my review to be a little bit off track. If you are an adult, please read on. This book suffers from a few big failings. First, the main character (Lexi) is portrayed as being very well read and somebody who uses "big" words. To me, Lexi seems a little bit self important and somewhat unlikable. However, the bigger problem is that if you create a character who is supposed to be intellectual, it is, I think, important that she use her "big" words correctly, and Lexi does not. The author is even worse. For example, she writes "elicit" when she means "illicit," she uses "whose" when she means "who is," and she describes the crumpled form of one of the characters as "limpless" . . . instead of "lifeless" perhaps? The kiss of death for me is the ubiquitous use of the word "anyways" in dialogue. Sheesh! The plot is unoriginal and not very well paced. Certain things drag on and on, while others reach resolution far too quickly. In general, the book felt like it was plodding along. The world creation was not very interesting. The characters, groups of characters, and supposed tension between the groups were not well thought out. Finally, the book ended with a whimper. There was no cliffhanger. There was no resolution of anything. Instead it just sort of fizzled out, leaving me with absolutely no desire to continue on. If I had waited another day to write this review, I would likely not remember anything about the story at all. This book wasn't horrible by any means. It just wasn't my cup of tea.
