Disappointed - cannot recommend
Once again buyer beware and that should have included me... This review will be similar to the one I posted about a 72 hour kit I purchased for short trips and potentially camping. The taste of the food is okay / acceptable. The food composition seems to me to be suitable for a non-meat eater. I do eat meat and also imitation soy (TSP). In reading the labels on the food packets the "meat" packs say "chicken flavored" or "beef flavored" - the protein is actually soy. Not happy about that but I can live with it if I have to. The two main issues I have concern packaging. The contents are shipped in a relatively flimsy (in my opinion) cardboard "box" - the box will not stand up to any real stress - in came inside another shipping cardboard box. The traditional cardboard shipping boxes are not good for long term storage because they can support the growth of microbes, especially mold. The Wise packaging is for staying in place (not pick it up and throw it in your car or carry it) and you will not be able to stack more two or three on top of one another - the boxes lack any mechanical strength and they will collapse and probably rip. It is exactly the box you see in the picture but the box has little or no mechanical strength. Yes... I know... and I am going to repackage in food storage containers with a handle but for the price Wise could have considered that to begin with as they have with their food buckets. Second, as with the 72 kit this is not really a one month food supply. As another reviewer mentioned most of what you get is breakfast and snack food - from that perspective these items will make a good supplement to the more substantial meals I have. Second issue - the "individual" packages are packed as servings for 4 - we are really talking about a 7-10 day supply for a family of four. I wish the servings had been packaged individually - one serving per package - it would slightly increase the cost but that would be okay for me as I am a family of "1". The packages are not resealable which means you have to eat the same meal 4 times in row or risk degradation of the nutritional and taste quality. Using ziplock bags after opening would be helpful - I get that - but just like with the cardboard "container" this was another shortcut... I would not have written such a negative review if this information was included in the manufacturers description. If this info had been provided my decision to purchase would have been different and if it wasn't then it would be on me and I would not have written this review. I am going to stick with Mountain House, BackPackers Pantry and Alpine Aire (sp?) - packaging from these vendors is individual or for two not very hungry people or in #10 cans and you know the issues up front with #10 cans. The food from those vendors is as tasty or more so than Wise. Hope this helps...
