Extremely biased 'history' - look elsewhere
I am sad that this book ended up falling into the trap of most post-modern studies of the subject. This is actually 2 books put into one. The first, being roughly 239 pages, is good and insightful. It covers the time periods from prehistoric era and progresses following mainly the Jews, ancient Greece, and Rome, Feudal Europe, ending with the Renaissance era. This first book is unbiased and worth reading.
The second book however, seems to be written by a completely different author. It is full of what would be called 'white guilt'. Of the 305 pages in the second book over 200 are devoted totally to American slavery. The language used is that which has become common - trying to make it seem like the institution was a peculiar 'white' institution.
Not one chapter is devoted to the MASSIVE Islamic slave trade which took in tens of millions of both black Africans and White Christians from eastern Europe & existed for over 1,000 years. It is also not noted anywhere that more slaves were imported to South America than to North America. It is very clear that in the second book a strong attempt was made to serve those who suffer from modern 'white guilt'.
Sad that the author did this. Biased presentation portrait as the history of human slavery.
