This Gerber Dime pocket tool will likely break
First off, I must say that I use a lot of these type of multitools and have experimented with a few brands in search of the best quality and I will have to say that Gerber is not traditionally a higher end product when it comes to the metals they use. I'm no expert however every single product (knives, machette, multitool) that I've used SO FAR has failed me before it's time. I was simply using this "Dime" to help another hiker separate a stubborn tent pole and the pressure apparently was too great. The plyer portion simply popped and gave out. I was just going to mail it back since it's under warranty however if you consider the cost of this item and then the cost to mail and insure it to Gerber, it's really not practical at all. I have absolutely nothing against Gerber except that my experiences have spoken clearly enough. I will say that this is a pretty handy tool if you're really not going to use it much but if you need something more dependable, do some research and see what guys say that really put their gear to the test. I'm not talking about opening a cardboard box with it or cutting some paracord folks, I mean USING it. Leatherman has been pretty good to me and when I snapped the blade on the older version of the Wave while in Iraq, they sent me the new version (they already identified the flaw) with a case and no questions asked. All I did was email them a picture of their broken blade and they didn't require the customer to pay to return their defective product. Just food for thought guys. Thanks for reading my rambling.
