For a few months now, my son has been talking about these "Beats by Dre". Apparently, some of his friends at school have them (Translation: "I'd have them too, if you weren't such a crappy dad"). Well, in the interest of wanting to fit in with the other, better dads, I finally relented and took the youngster headphone shopping, and let me tell you I cannot possibly articulate how utterly underwhelming these things are. BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! if this is how you BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! BOOM! like to listen to your music, then BOOM! BOOM! these might be just be the outlet your $200 has been looking for. If, however, you have any desire to enjoy any sound above 200Hz or so, then by all means move along people -- there's nothing to hear...here. The mids and highs aren't just muddy, they're mired in quicksand. Could it be that in N.W.A.-land, Dre was in charge of bass, and Easy-E was responsible for mid-range and treble? After listening to these, I believe that's a distinct possibility. In any event, I would highly recommend passing these up and spending $80 on a pair of Sennheisers or AKGs. And if it makes you feel better, simply send them to me with a cashier's check for $120 plus return postage, and I'll paint a red "b" on the sides.
